“Closing the Gap with Max”
Middle School, Grade 6, Special Education
Applicants: Jane Barnes and Lisa Stirn
Summary: Chromebooks will be purchased so teachers can more effectively work with special education students. Teachers will use a program to identify strengths and weaknesses of each student.
“First Grade Super Scientists”
Door Elementary, Grade 1, Science and Reading
Applicant: Brandy Bilek
Summary: Hands-on science materials like microscopes will be purchased so teachers can plan units that are part of the Common Core State Standards.
“National History Day”
High School, Grades 9-12, Social Studies
Applicant: Andrew Screptock
Summary: The grant will go toward expanding the school’s participation in the National History Day program, which allows students to complete extensive research projects on topics of their choice, present their findings to historians and other academic professionals.
“Scripting and Designing SMS”
Middle School, Grades 7-8, Technology
Applicant: Amy Merrill-Wyatt
Summary: The grant will fund the purchase of materials needed for a new class called “Script Writing and Set Design.” Students will analyze scripts for kid-appropriate Hollywood movies and then write scripts, build sets and film the results.

Summary: This project will allow the staff to have an additional resources that supports the Common Core State Standards. The materials will help plan effective lessons, which support the current language series “Literacy By Design.”
“Increasing Interdisciplinary Vocabulary Knowledge with Students Receiving Intervention:
Holland Elementary, Grades 3-5, Special Education
Applicant: Carla Gilbert
Summary: The grant will fund the purchase of “Flocabulary,” an online library of educational hip-hop songs and videos, to increase interdisciplinary vocabulary knowledge and usage.
“Learning About Me”
Dorr Elementary, Grades 3-5, Intervention
Applicant: Janet King
Summary: The grant will provide books to help parents and teachers have conversations with children about their disability in a positive and hopeful manner.
“Wild Kindergarten Raz-Kids”
Dorr Elementary, Grade K, Reading
Applicants: Barb Eckhart and Amanda Schlageter
Summary: The grant will purchase RAZ-KIDS, which is an online reading program that makes books accessible from the web or mobile devices and, therefore, allows parents to provide these books for their children at home.
